The Importance of Storytelling in Audiovisual and Immersive Experiences

  • Discover Onionlab’s interactive installations that fuse art, technology, and storytelling to create inspiring experiences

At Onionlab, we create immersive and interactive experiences using advanced technologies such as projection mapping, lights, lasers, and LED bars. We offer comprehensive solutions for brand events, light festivals, and museum installations. Our goal is to create works that captivate the senses of viewers and transport them to a world of creativity.

However, to make our works truly memorable, it takes more than technology and special effects. In fact, one of the key factors that makes our pieces meaningful is the stories we tell and how we tell them.

Storytelling is the key to generating an emotional connection between our audience and our works. When we tell a story, we are not only conveying information, but also creating an emotional experience that can change the way people perceive their surroundings and the world.

For example, in our piece Xarxa, we wanted to reflect on the connection between people and the role that communication and technology play today. The beams of light are the focal point of the show, symbolizing connections between people.

We work to create concepts and scripts that reflect the goals and values of brands or cultural organizations.

The concept is the main idea behind the experience and guides the entire creative process. To establish a good concept, it is necessary to consider the target audience, the company’s objectives, and the message to be conveyed.

A good concept must be clear, concise, and memorable. A clear example of this is the work we did for Presented by stores, where we collaborated with external reference to design different stores. Each store had an initial concept, such as water or sand, and from there, the space, lights, and visuals were developed.

Once the concept is established, it is important to create a script that develops the story coherently and effectively. The script is the backbone of the story and should have a beginning, development, and conclusion. It is important for the script to be exciting and help people empathize with the story being told. It should also have key moments that generate an impact on the audience.

At Onionlab, we ensure that the script is perfectly aligned with the concept and that it effectively conveys the intended message.

This is what we did at the Palacio de la Magdalena, where we used resources such as metaphors and story arcs to create an unforgettable experience.

It is important that all elements of the experience are aligned with the story being told. From music to lighting and projection, everything must be designed to reinforce the story and make viewers feel immersed in the experience.

At Onionlab, we know that a good story can be the key to generating an emotional impact on viewers. When people connect emotionally with a story, they tend to remember it for a much longer time.

That is why it is important to tell the story in an interesting way, as we did in the exhibition tour for the Spanish Pavilion at Expo 2020. People are more likely to connect emotionally with stories that have a purpose beyond selling a product or service.

In conclusion, storytelling is fundamental to the experiences and worlds created by Onionlab. By establishing a good concept and script, we can create works that are not only impressive from a technological standpoint but also generate an emotional connection with the audience.

By telling authentic and meaningful stories, we can inspire, motivate, and connect with others in a deep and lasting way.
