Phasing rain- Caprera
Immersive installation about global warming co-directed by Onionlab and Xavi Bové Studio with sound design and music by Zinkman.
- We are thrilled to present our immersive installation, Phasing Rain, once again, now set in an enchanting forest for the Caprera Licht festival in Bloemendaal.
The installation features 26 LED columns and speakers, creating a space where the audience can walk through. Each column and speaker is synesthetically linked with an individual drop note, forming an immersive experience.
These 26 water drops evolve into synchronized patterns, shifting to an arpeggio, and exploring a wide spatial experience that suggests perceptual instability, a metaphor for the uncertain future.
Phasing Rain reflects on climate change and the impact of torrential rains. Inspired by minimalist composer Steve Reich, who used Brother Walter’s speech about the biblical flood and Noah’s Ark to warn about the Cold War’s potential end of the world. Reich’s use of two magnetic tapes to create phase-shifting loops explores spatial experiences in binaural hearing.
In this new outdoor setting, the installation integrates LED columns and speakers naturally among the trees, allowing visitors to walk through.
- The natural environment enhances the installation’s theme, harmonizing light and sound with the surrounding forest.
By situating Phasing Rain in nature, we emphasize the connection between water, global warming, and the natural world, urging visitors to reflect on our environmental impact and the importance of sustainability.
