Red Bull Batalla Mexico
Onionlab was responsible for the design, conceptualization, and audiovisual content of the Red Bull Batalla 2022 Final held in Mexico City.
The competition was held in 2022 and the main stage was designed in collaboration with NEP Spain and @bbbestudio Experiencias Visuales.
- The main vision behind the stage design was to create a futuristic pre-Columbian city with six distinct districts or universes, each of which was represented in a different round of the competition.
- The graphic elements were inspired by a futuristic pre-Columbian aesthetic, which incorporated indigenous symbols into more contemporary, technological, and urban languages.
To ensure a cohesive and immersive experience for the audience, a well-developed concept was crucial.
- As such, different neighborhoods of a fictitious city were designed for each phase of the battle. These neighborhoods included a total of six districts, namely Temple, Brutalist, Industrial, Innovation, Neon, and Rational.
- Apart from the design of the neighborhoods, storytelling also encompassed planning for lighting elements and the design and production of audiovisual components.
The ultimate goal was to create a narrative that would connect each district and immerse the audience in the experience.
- Throughout the battles, Desilence created an MCs visual representation in real-time on the backdrop, while Nativo Design added graphics using a great real-time “batalla” interface.
Overall, the stage design for Red Bull Batalla blended past and present seamlessly, incorporating pre-Columbian influences into a futuristic setting.
- The team’s attention to detail and dedication to the storytelling of the event helped to create an unforgettable experience for the audience.
