Mazda Hiroshima
Rooted in the Japanese concept of Shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing,” a Japanese practice that invites us to connect with nature through our senses, the immersive cube transforms nature into a living space for reflection, harmony, and renewal.
The narrative unfolds through the life journey of the Sasakia Charonda butterfly, a symbol of Hiroshima. From its birth in the shadows to its final flight, the installation guides visitors through the natural landscapes of Japan, blending visual abstraction with poetic realism.
At its awakening, the butterfly unfolds its wings and invites us into a gentle blossoming. Gradually, the flora of Hiroshima reveals itself, in dynamic compositions that honor the abundance of Japan’s natura.
The journey continues as the butterfly flights through a forest of Hiroshima, where trees, bamboo, and rivers succeed one another in an atmosphere that reflects the serenity of Shinrin-yoku.
The experience culminates with the majestic Ginkgo Biloba, its golden leaves slowly falling to create a space of contemplation. In its final flight, the butterfly disappears into the branches and roots of the tree, closing the life cycle in a metaphor of longevity and connection with nature.
With this proposal, Mazda and Onionlab bring tradition, nature, and technology into dialogue, offering an immersive cube experience that transforms the forest into a space for introspection and emotional connection with Japanese culture.
